United Methodist Youth

Our goal is to teach teens our age about the love of God. We meet weekly to discuss Christ, the Bible and their meaning in our lives today. We also actively explore and show our faith at events both inside and outside the United Methodist Church. For example:
  • Pilgrimage
Two nights of worship and fun. Teen believers and adult leaders from across North Carolina gather together and share their experiences at this event. It is a time and place where we can show that faith and discipleship can be fun.
  • Chicken Pickin'
Outdoor worship at Cedar Rock Park. It begins with free time. This allows youth groups to explore the park, its waterfall and nature trails and participate in frisbee and volleyball games. This is followed by a live band, speakers and the highlight: the infamous Chicken Dance competition. We wrap up w/ a BBQ dinner and evening prayer.
  • Canned Food Drive
Each year youth in the Burlington District gather canned goods from their church members and the community. This food is then collected at the First UMC of Graham and donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. We then celebrate w/ prayer and a film at the Graham Cinema.
  • Fall Rally
This is an afternoon gathering of youth groups from across the NCCUMC. It is a time for fellowship in faith and worship of God. The rally begins with games such as volleyball, soccer and softball. Then we come together for a worship service w/ music and messages of the Christian faith.
  • Spring Fling at Camp Rockfish
At the Spring Fling youth, ages 6 th - 12 th grades, enjoy recreational activities, meet youth from other churches and participate in youth oriented worship. Students from college ministry teams lead the groups in worship with thought-provoking skits and fast-paced Christian music. Participants also learn team-building skills through various sports, games and challenge courses.
  • Relay for Life
Each year we participate in the Hillsborough Relay for Life. This is a community event and a celebration of life. It honors those who have survived cancer, those who face it every day and the lives of those who pass on. We take part by fundraising and by taking on the late night walking shifts during the event.
  • Lock In's
We attend the Burlington District Lock In and have our own Lock In's as well. These events combine sports, worship, discussions of faith in today's world.
  • No Hungry Neighbors
Through craft sales and events such as a "Pancake breakfast" we raise funds for No Hungry Neighbors. This is the NCCUMC ministry, which supports the Food Banks of North Carolina, the Second Harvest Food Bank in Fayetteville, the Food Bank of Albemarle in Elizabeth City, and the Society of St. Andrew (SOSA). These funds have been especially needed this year due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.
We also participate in a normal of informal events such as fishing trips, work sessions at the church, Highway Clean Up's, Halleluyah night (games and movies at Halloween), fundraising at the Hillsborough Farmers Market, and Mother's Day and Father's Day appreciation breakfasts.
